As vaylens prepares to take part in this year’s EV Rally, Russell Olive explains why the company is getting behind the event, the EV myths it hopes to challenge on route, and what teams can expect at the vaylens' hosted checkpoint
We’re delighted that vaylens is taking part in this year’s EV Rally. What made you decide to get involved?
We've worked with GreenFleet on a number of successful events, and the EV Rally is a fantastic opportunity to further promote the vaylens brand within the UK fleet sector.
It's also a great platform to engage with fleet operators, share insights and support the industry's transition to electric vehicles.
Can you tell us about Team vaylens? Who’ll be taking part and what vehicle will you be driving?
We're still working on the vehicle, but we’ll have myself alongside Lizzie Coles, UK Product Manager; Harry Sullivan, PR & Communications Manager; and Dianne Smith, UK Sales Manager.
Are there any aspects of the EV Rally that you expect to be challenging? If so, how are you planning to address them?
Not really. However, this is the first time we’ve done anything like this. I guess there are a lot of miles to cover, so we’ll share the driving!
This year's rally theme is busting EV myths and misinformation. Is there a particular myth that you would like to challenge on the rally?
We’d like to challenge the myth that EVs can’t replace combustion-engine vehicles due to limited range and inadequate public charging, particularly when it comes to used EVs.
You’re also hosting a checkpoint this year. What can teams expect when they get there?
Teams can look forward to a warm welcome at Peckforton Castle, with plenty of space to park and explore the castle and Land Rover Experience Centre. Guests can enjoy complimentary refreshments, while an instructor will be available in the morning to talk about the capability of the vehicles.
Looking ahead, what are vaylens’ future plans, and how is the business helping fleets progress towards their net-zero goals?
We'll continue working closely with fleets through roundtable discussions and ongoing collaborations to better understand the real-world challenges they face every day. That’s the only way we’ll continue delivering solutions that meaningfully help fleets across the UK and Europe.
These insights directly shape our product development, with a clear goal: to make technology do the heavy lifting, simplifying the transition to electric vehicles and helping fleets progress towards their net-zero ambitions with greater confidence.
