650 VW ID Buzz Cargo vans to join Mitie's fleet

Mitie has ordered 650 Volkswagen ID Buzz Cargo vans, which will be added to their 4,000 strong electric vehicle fleet.

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles said this is one of the "largest fleet deals for the all-electric van to date, with the first vehicles already on UK roads."

Mitie made the decision to increase their EV fleet as part of its pledge to reach net zero emissions for its own operations by the end of 2025.

Craig Cavanagh, national fleet manager at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, said: “The ID. Buzz Cargo is a sustainable business companion, operating as an on-the-go all-electric offices."

The vehicle was selected for the fleet partly because of its storage capabilities, such as lightweight racking with four shelves to hold parts and equipment. The vehicles also feature a load-through bulkhead, removing the need for roof racks and external pipe carriers.

It was also chosen because of its competitive price and all-electric range.

Heidi Thompson, group fleet manager at Mitie, said the company is "always looking for new vehicle options that will help us meet our broad range of business needs."

She added: "With Mitie colleagues giving great reviews on the comfort, driving experience, and practicality of the ID. Buzz Cargo, this model was an ideal choice to cater to the diverse requirements of our engineers, cleaners and landscaping colleagues that will be driving the Buzz.”
