The amount of public electric vehicle devices installed across the UK has increased by 49 per cent (19,520 devices) since April last year, according to DfT statistics.

As of 1 April 2024, there were 59,670 public electric vehicle charging devices installed in the UK. This is compared to 40,150 in April 2023.

11,590 of these had 50kW of power or above, and 35,339 of these had a power rating of 3kW up to 8kW.

In terms of location, 27,583 were designated as ‘destination’ chargers and 22,199 were designated as ‘on street’ chargers.

The statistics show that availability of public charge points varies hugely by region; London has 221 public devices per 100,000 people, but there are just 53 in the North West and Yorkshire and the Humber.
