Harris Group has launched a new commercial vehicle rental operation aimed at providing flexible fleet solutions to businesses across the UK and Ireland.

The new division, called Harris Rentals, will offer commercial vehicles from across the group’s portfolio, including Maxus, Higer, Isuzu and the recently introduced Sinotruk heavy truck range, which arrives through a long-term distribution agreement with Chinese commercial vehicle manufacturer Sinotruk,

The electric version of the Sinotruck  is currently being put through its paces on the GREENFLEET EV Rally.  

The business will focus primarily on longer-term rentals, from several months upwards, although daily and weekly rental options will also be available.

Harris Rentals plans to operate from a number of strategic locations across the UK and Ireland, using Harris Group’s existing infrastructure and dealer network. This will enable the company to provide regional support as well as deliver vehicles directly to customers.

The company has appointed Mike Williams as managing director to establish and develop the new operation. Williams has around 40 years’ experience in the truck rental sector, including a lengthy career with Dawsongroup.

Williams said customers were increasingly looking beyond price when choosing a rental provider, with service, vehicle reliability and ongoing support becoming more important.

Williams said: “The market is ready for a substantial new entrant that has the OEM-scale backing and support to offer a full range of products.”

Harris Group CEO Brian Patterson said the rental operation would extend the group's relationship with commercial vehicle customers beyond its traditional sales and aftersales activities.

The launch also forms part of Harris Group's wider expansion plans. The company is targeting €1bn in annual revenue by 2030, with rental expected to play an important role in achieving that growth.
