Moto launches charging hub in Tamworth for HGVs and cars
Moto Charge

Moto Hospitality has opened its new proprietary ultra-rapid charging hub, Moto CHARGE, at its Tamworth site which features dedicated eHGV bays.

Delivering up to 360kW ultra-rapid charging speeds, accessible bays and multiple payment options, the site offers a range of customer amenities to private motorists and commercial fleets.

Aiming to eradicate the barriers to commercial fleet decarbonisation with its dedicated eHGV bays, the hub significantly expands public charging capacity across the West Midlands.

The launch at the Tamworth site marks a pivotal milestone in Moto’s £500 million investment programme, with capital actively being deployed to upgrade facilities, quadruple Moto’s EV charging bays, and accelerate the rollout of electric Heavy Goods Vehicle (eHGV) infrastructure nationwide.

Tamworth’s super hub features 24 bays for passenger cars and a further eight bays specifically dedicated to eHGVs. To guarantee the power delivery and uptime required by the logistics, automotive and consumer sectors, Moto has continued its partnerships with industry leaders GRIDSERVE and Actemium.

Building on the success of GRIDSERVE’s government-backed Electric Freightway programme, which recently saw Actemium successfully deliver the UK's first public eHGV charging hub at Moto Exeter, the organisations have partnered once again to deploy the high-capacity infrastructure at Tamworth.

Ken McMeikan, CEO of Moto Hospitality, commented: "The launch of Moto CHARGE at our Tamworth site is a landmark moment not just for Moto, but for the UK’s entire logistics sector. By introducing dedicated, open-access eHGV bays alongside high-capacity passenger charging, we are directly addressing the infrastructure gap that has held back commercial fleet decarbonisation. Together with our partners, including Actemium, GRIDSERVE and Last Mile, we are delivering the reliable, ultra-rapid power supply chain managers need, while taking a crucial step forward in our £500 million commitment to transform the UK's motorway network. Our goal is to provide a scalable blueprint that proves this is possible and encourages the wider industry and public sector collaboration needed to build a truly national network."

The broader transition to zero-emission freight cannot be solved by site operators alone and true nationwide network readiness remains a significant hurdle. Moto is credibly leading the physical infrastructure rollout, but critical next steps require a coordinated national plan to ensure consistent infrastructure across key freight corridors, manage complex factors like extended dwell times for commercial vehicles, and upgrade local grid capacity to support high-power charging.

Moto is removing the operational friction that has historically slowed the transition to electric freight by ensuring a seamless payment and roaming experience which integrates effortlessly with existing commercial fleet operations.
