GREENFLEET is bringing EV Rally Cymru back to Wales on 21-22 October 2026, with more than 25 electric vehicles and over 45 drivers and passengers taking on a 400-mile journey from South to North Wales.
Welsh Government’s Deputy Minister for Transport Mark Hooper will launch the Rally at the FSEW e-Freight Hub in Cardiff, Wales’ first dedicated electric charging hub for Heavy Goods Vehicles, before the teams head west to E.ON Cross Hands Public Charging Station and then on to Aberystwyth, where they will stop overnight.
Day two will see the Rally head north through Porthmadog and Eryri, before continuing towards Rhyl and Wrexham and the finish at Toyota GB’s manufacturing facility in Deeside, the Welsh home of the Official Partner for EV Rally Cymru 2026.
This is not simply a 400-mile drive. This year’s Rally will focus on ‘Busting the Myths’ around electric vehicles and public charging. The teams will experience the Welsh charging network for themselves, using a mixture of public charging infrastructure and dedicated charging sites along the route.
With 3,813 public EV chargers currently deployed across Wales, including more than 800 rapid and ultra-rapid chargers, the Rally provides an opportunity to see how the network performs when put to the test by a group of vehicles travelling across the country over two days.
The Rally is supported by Transport for Wales (TfW), with TfW returning as Headline Partner for 2026. On day two, TfW will host an official checkpoint at Porthmadog railway station with partners Cyngor Gwynedd and Evolt. Bringing together rail services, car and van charging and charging infrastructure for the all-electric TrawsCymru T22 bus service, the location will provide a practical showcase of how zero-emission vehicles and public transport can connect as part of one integrated network.
Tony Clayton, Programme Manager at Transport for Wales, said: “Porthmadog is a great example of our wider role in helping people make greener journeys across Wales. At one location, the Rally will see electric cars and vans alongside rail services and the zero-emission T22, which links Blaenau Ffestiniog, Porthmadog and Caernarfon using a fleet of all-electric buses.
“The checkpoint brings our multimodal remit and partnership approach to life. TfW’s work spans rail, bus, active travel, shared mobility and EV charging, and our ambition is to make these options work together as a joined-up network. By combining clean vehicles, charging infrastructure and convenient connections between bus and rail, we can make low-carbon travel a practical and attractive choice for more communities, businesses and visitors.”
For Ursula Perry, Events Sponsorships & Partnerships at GREENFLEET and EV Rally, the Rally is about demonstrating what can be achieved when the industry works together.
She said: “We’re delighted to have Transport for Wales back as our Headline Partner for EV Rally Cymru ’26. Their support is hugely important because the Rally is all about getting out there and experiencing the infrastructure for ourselves.
“There are still plenty of myths around electric vehicles, particularly when it comes to charging and longer journeys. The best way to challenge those myths is to get people out on the road and show them what is actually possible.
“The Rally brings together fleets, manufacturers, charge point operators, energy companies, local authorities and a whole host of other organisations. Everyone has a role to play, and that’s what makes EV Rally Cymru so interesting. We’re looking forward to getting everyone back on the road in October and seeing what Wales has in store for us this year.”
Along the route, Official Checkpoints will give the teams opportunities to stop, recharge and meet the organisations involved in Wales’ transition to electric transport. They will also provide the backdrop for the Rally’s social media coverage, which has previously reached more than 1.5 million LinkedIn connections.
The Rally continues to attract support from across the automotive, energy and fleet sectors, with opportunities available for Official Teams, Partners and Checkpoint Hosts.
EV Rally Cymru has also attracted significant media attention, including BBC regional news coverage and live radio broadcasts, helping to bring the story of electric transport in Wales to a much wider audience.
