A service that allows local authorities in Wales to access tools and data on electric vehicle infrastructure has been extended until March 2027, thanks to funding from Transport for Wales.
The NEVIS service by Cenex has provided reliable, independent up-to-date information about EV infrastructure to all Welsh local authorities since 2023.
Over that time, 86 Officers have used NEVIS to understand future EV uptake projections, understand the emissions implications of different scenarios and more. As a result, Cenex’s data has supported several rounds of funding applications, multiple local EV strategies and EVI projects.
Every Local Authority in Wales will now have another 12 months' access to a locally specific suite of modelling and mapping tools, a knowledge repository, LA networking channel, and other modules.
This means that over 85% of Local Authorities in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland can access to NEVIS, supporting a joined-up and nationally consistent approach to EV Infrastructure policy, strategy and implementation planning.
This complements the wider support Transport for Wales already offers to Local Authorities to improve access to data, strengthen in-house capability and deliver EV charging infrastructure that is sustainable and equitable.
Tony Clayton, EV Infrastructure Programme Manager at Transport for Wales, said: “Extending access to the NEVIS service ensures that local authorities across Wales can continue to base their decisions on robust, independent evidence. The platform has already played a key role in shaping local EV strategies and supporting successful funding applications, and this extension will help maintain that momentum. By providing consistent tools and insights, we’re enabling a more joined-up, informed approach to planning EV infrastructure that meets the needs of communities across Wales.”
Chris Rimmer, Head of Policy, Strategy and Implementation said: “By extending access to the NEVIS service for another year, we can provide local authorities with the tools and data they need to set robust policies and evidenced-based strategies to reduce the environmental impact of transport in Wales.
