AFP to launch tax manifesto at new webinar

News

A tax manifesto designed to form the basis of future campaigning by the Association of Fleet Professionals will be launched at a new webinar being held next month.

The AFP plans to use the manifesto as the foundation for conversations with the government and HMRC in the coming months and years.

The webinar, called “Tax and the Company Car”, begins at 9.30am on Wednesday 14th April and is open to anyone who would like to attend.

The main session will feature David Chandler and Harvey Perkins from HRUX providing general advice on year-end taxation and company cars, covering P87s, P11Ds, benefit-in-kind, and employee car ownership schemes.

An examination of the possibilities resulting from the new 130% super deduction will also be included in the webinar, examining the implications for commercial vehicles, plant, and charging equipment installed at homes and offices.

This will be followed by the launch of the AFP Tax Manifesto, which features around a dozen areas in which the organisation believes that change or definition is needed to enable businesses to move forward with their fleet and mobility plans.

Chair Paul Hollick explained: “We’ve timed the webinar to coincide with the end of the tax year when there is the highest level of demand for advice on tax from fleet managers, and we expect attendance to be high.

“Especially, we’re going to spend quite a lot of time providing as much clarification as possible around the 130% super deduction. This is creating substantial interest among fleets but the picture remains far from clear and we hope to be able to provide more detail.

“However, the big news is the launch of the Tax Manifesto. Part of the thinking behind the formation of the AFP just over a year ago was the need for a campaigning fleet industry organisation and this is one of the first signs of that intention.

“We’ve been having wide-ranging discussions with our members and other interested parties about areas where we believe that the taxation of fleets and mobility needs changing or developing in order to create effective incentives, greater certainty and more fairness. The results are contained in this document. We plan to use it as the foundation for conversations with the government and HMRC in the coming months and years.”

“Tax and the Company Car” is expected to last around 60 minutes including a question and answer session. Further details and registration are available at www.theafp.co.uk. The AFP Tax Manifesto will be made available publicly as soon as the webinar finishes.
