A new Hydrogen refuelling station is set to open on the A13 in Rainham in early 2016.

The station is part of the HyFive project and will add to the growing infrastructure to support the growth of fuel cell vehicles in the UK.

The HyFive project is a £31 million European project involving leading motor manufacturers, hydrogen fuel suppliers, the Mayor of London’s Office and energy consultancies to deploy fuel cell vehicles and hydrogen refuelling stations across Europe.

Havering Borough Council has given permission to ITM Power to build the station, which will be erected at the The Centre for Engineering and Manufacturing Excellence (CEME) site.

Dr Graham Cooley, CEO of ITM Power, commented: “ITM are pleased to announce the decision by Havering Borough Council to grant planning permission for a hydrogen refuelling station at CEME, this is a key step in rolling out refuelling infrastructure in East London.”
