Electric car owners in Beijing are set to benefit from nearly 2,000 charge points, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

According to Auto Economic Times, around 1,615 of these will be installed in the area of administration offices in Beijing city’s Tongzhou District.

This is part of plans to work out how to phase out petrol and diesel vehicles.

By 2020, Tongzhou plans to build a charging port every two kilometers to provide better service to electric vehicles in the suburban district of Beijing.

At the moment, Tongzhou has 53 charging stations at expressway service areas and shopping malls.

There are another two for the district’s 510 electric cabs.
