Plug in Car and Van Grants continue until October

News

Both the Plug in Car Grant and the Plug in Van Grant will continue at existing levels until at least October 2018, with a pledge to continue in some form until at least 2020, the DfT stated yesterday.

For Category 1 cars with CO2 emissions of less than 50g/km and can travel at least 70 miles without any CO2 emissions at all, the grant will pay for 35% of the purchase price, up to a maximum of £4,500.

Category 2 cars with CO2 emissions of less than 50g/km and can travel at least 10 miles without any CO2 emissions at all, the grant pays a maximum of £2,500. This is the same for Category 3 cars with CO2 emissions of 50 to 75g/km and can travel at least 20 miles without any CO2 emissions at all.

The Van Grant will pay for 20 per cent of the purchase price of approved vehicles up to a maximum of £8,000. For approved motocycles and mopeds, the grant pays to a maximum of £1,500.

The government has also announced it is considering further options for reducing emissions for last mile deliveries, to be set out by Cycling and Walking Minister Jesse Norman in a forthcoming call for evidence, including for the first time providing grants and/or other financial incentives to support the use of e-cargo bikes.
