Hyundai NEXO first hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle to be NCAP tested

News

The Hyundai NEXO is the first hydrogen fuel-cell electric vehicle that Euro NCAP has tested, and has achieved a maximum five star rating.

Michiel van Ratingen, Secretary General of Euro NCAP said: “The fuel cell NEXO and hybrid ES point the way for future powertrains and Euro NCAP will work to ensure that safety performance as well as energy efficiency remains at the top of the manufacturers’ agenda.

“This is a satisfying set of solid test results and we are pleased that cars continue to perform well in the AEB tests, including for pedestrians and cyclists. It is very welcome to see manufacturers rising to Euro NCAP’s challenge of effective vulnerable road user protection.”

The NEXO, which is available next year, has an advanced air purification system which filters 99.9% of very fine dust (PM2.5). The vehicle shows the exact amount of air purified on the display panel in the car each time you drive. To help Brits visualise this innovative technology, Hyundai has held a clean air demonstration which brings to life the air purification system.

When the NEXO is driven for just one hour, it approximately cleans the same amount of air pollutants that two internal combustion engine cars emit – that’s enough clean air for 42 adults to breathe for one hour.
