The German government has given the green-light to incentives and tax breaks to encourage the uptake of electric vehicles (EV) across the country.
Under the plans, EVs will be exempt from vehicle tax for the next ten years, an increase on the previous exemption of five.
Additionally, employees who charge their vehicles at work will pay a reduced tax rate of 25 per cent on this non-cash benefit.
These measures come on top of plans to give buyers a €4,000 incentive for pure electric cars and a €3,000 incentive for plug-in hybrids.
The programme will also include an investment of €300 million into expanding charging infrastructure.
