Welsh factory to open to produce London hybrid taxi parts

Norwegian aluminium company Sapa is set to reopen its Welsh factory in order to develop and supply aluminum to be used in London hybrid taxis.

According to The Independent, Sapa is investing £9.6 billion and has been granted £555,000 from the Welsh government for the plant in south Wales.

Fifty-eight people will be hired to work in the factory and there are plans to create over 200 jobs in the next five years.

The reopening is in response to growing demand for aluminium components in electric and green cars.

Production is expected to begin in the final quarter of 2017 and the first London hybrid black cabs are to hit the road in November, with the aim of having 150 on the road by the end of the year.
