Daimler to begin production on light-duty electric truck

Daimler is launching a limited series production run of the eCanter later this year with plans to go into mass production by 2019.

This comes after Daimler displayed the light-duty electric truck during a German trade show for electric vehicles last year.

It has an expected range of around 62 miles, can carry between two to three tonnes, and can be charged in under an hour with a DC fast charger.

The e-Canter - which is being developed by FUSO - has also been tested on public streets in Germany and Portugal, undergoing around 37,000 miles.

The series production run is expected to run in Tokyo, Lisbon and New York with the ultimate goal to begin mass production in 2019.
