Volkswagen Group announces cross-brand diesel scrappage scheme

News

Volkswagen has launched a new scrappage upgrade scheme across three of its brands - SEAT, SKODA and Audi UK - to encourage the scrapping of older diesel vehicles.

The scheme is also available for VW models.

The initiative will see the owners of any pre-Euro 5 diesel vehicle, which have been registered before 2010, qualify for the schemes across all four brands.

For those interested in VW models, drivers will be able to trade-in their vehicle to benefit from incentives - ranging from £1,800 to £6,000 - against the majority of new VW models if it is ordered by 31 December 2017.

VW is also launching a further scheme for commercial vehicles. It will see drivers of vans and passenger carriers benefit from incentives of up to £2,000 if they trade in for one of its latest Euro 6 commercial models.

The SEAT Scrappage incentive scheme will offer trade-in incentives of between £1,500 to £3,500 against several new models if ordered before the end of the year. Available trade-in models include SEAT’s Mii, Ibiza, Leon and Toledo.

The SKODA scheme will offer incentives of between £1,500 and £4,000 against the majority of its models including its Citigo, Fabia, Octavia, Yeti and Superb.

The efficiency benefits of the latest Audi EU6 engine technology will be available in the UK to drivers of older diesel models registered before 2010 at preferential rates as part of the Audi UK scrappage incentive

When trading in for a new EU6 TFSI petrol, TDI diesel or e-tron plug-in hybrid, Audi model customers will receive an exclusive scrappage contribution towards the purchase price of between £2,000 and £8,000.

The majority of new Audi models can be exchanged on this new-for-old basis, with the exception of Q7 TDI, A8, R8 and RS models.

The aim of the schemes is to remove older diesel vehicles from the roads in order to reduce NOx emissions.

Vehicles traded in will be scrapped, rather than sold on.

Drivers will be able to combine the incentives with the OLEV grant in order to make further savings.

Alison Jones, director of Volkswagen UK, commented: “With this new Scrappage Upgrade Scheme, there’s never been a better time to step up from an older diesel into one of our new, lower emission range of Volkswagens.”
