The BVRLA has reported that 42% of new cars added to the BVRLA’s leasing fleet in Q3 2023 were battery electric vehicles (BEV), giving a strong foundation for the industry to achieve the 22% target set for total new car sales in 2024.

The sector is already operating more than 400,000 BEVs, representing more than a third of total cars on the BVRLA’s leasing fleet. The average age of cars on the fleet is just over three years, highlighting the role of the sector in feeding the used EV market with reliable second-hand cars.

For the first time, business contract hire (BCH) lease enquiries for Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) have outperformed diesel and petrol sales enquiries combined, according to data from car leasing comparison site Leasing.com.

For Q3 2023, the data showed that BEVs were the most popular drive train, making up almost half (49%) of all business enquiries.

Nearly half of the company cars delivered in the first quarter of 2023 were battery electric vehicles (BEV), according to the latest BVRLA Leasing Outlook Report data.

BEVs were responsible for 49 per cent of new business contract hire cars. The salary sacrifice market has grown 41 per cent year-on-year, with 91 per cent of registrations pure electric. These figures are in stark contrast to the retail market, where BEV sales were responsible for 16 per cent of new sales and one per cent of used purchases in the first quarter.

According to comparison website Leasing.com, there's been a 32% increase in enquiries for electric vehicles in Q1 2023 compared to Q4 2022.

Leasing.com believes the demand is down to consumers seeking out leasing offers online instead of opting for Personal Contract Purchase (PCP) offers in dealer showrooms. Figures from the Finance & Leasing Association (FLA) show that PCP remains the most popular new car finance product.

Healthcare specialist Abbott Laboratories is on target to switch its 475-strong UK car fleet to all-electric vehicles during 2023 with the help of Arval UK.

The company now has fewer than 100 drivers operating any kind of ICE vehicle, and measures are in place to transition all remianing drivers to EV.
