Wyke Farms, the UK’s largest independent cheese producer and producer of renewable energy, complete successful trial with Volvo Trucks as they continue to find new ways of reducing carbon and extend EV usage for milk collection and haulage.

Wyke Farms have completed a two-week trial using the Volvo FM Electric truck for milk collections from supplier farms in Somerset and for cheese haulage from the dairy to the maturing stores.

JJX Logistics reduces fleet emissions by 17 per cent

International haulage company JJX Logistics has achievde a 17% reduction in fleet emissions in just three months since it has implemented advanced AI solutions from Samsara.

Safety has also been improved since the move, and the company has now become one of the seven UK companies to gain Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA) Trucking Security Requirements (TSR) Level 1 approval.

More than 70% of goods handled by JJX Logistics is UN-regulated dangerous goods — such as commercial lithium-ion battery packs and Class 8 corrosive liquids.

Harris MAXUS has launched two new vehicles at the Commercial Vehicle Show - the eDELIVER 5 electric LCV and MAXUS MIFA 7 MPV.

The launch of the MIFA 7 follows the introduction of one of the world’s first fully electric MPVs, the MIFA 9, to the UK and Irish markets in 2022.

Catering for for a number of audience segments including taxi drivers, executive chauffeurs, hotels and hospitality providers, as well as families, the Premium model of the MIFA 7 has a 90kWh battery and offers a range of up to 298 miles (WLTP combined).

Southern Water will be replacing a third of its engineering vehicle fleet with more than 300 new vans – the majority of which will be partially powered by solar panels.

The solar panels, located on the roofs, will help drivers and engineers charge equipment while out and about – meaning they can get more done without taking trips to our sites.

New SMMT figures show that new battery electric vans (BEVs) registrations are continuing to rise, up 14.7% to 2,906 units this March - taking up 5.5% of the whole LCV market, but up only slightly from 5.3% in March last year.

The light commercial vehicle market overall was up 11.1%, with 52,916 new LCVs joining the roads in March.

As a result, the van sector in 2024 delivered its best first quarter for three years,2 with volumes now just -7.7% below Q1 2019.

The production of commercial vehicles (CV) in the UK almost doubled in February, with 12,927 vans, trucks, taxis, buses and coaches leaving factory lines, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). This was driven mainly by demand from overseas markets.

The 98.4% rise in volume was the best February performance since 2008 and follows a particularly weak February last year due to supply chain issues.

Neill & Brown Global Logistics in Humber is undertaking the its first trial of a fully electric truck from contract hire company, Vertellus.

Supplied through Premium Leasing Ltd, Thompson Commercials’s vehicle leasing arm, the 18 tonne Renault Trucks E-Tech D rigid is on the Vertellus 3-month EV Discovery programme, which includes the installation of a DC charger at the vehicle’s operating base at Livingstone Road, Hessle.

Spirii and DC charging specialist Vital EV have partnered to enable heavy duty fleet operators to publicise their charging networks through Vital’s Occulus charge management portal.

By opening their chargers to the public, heavy duty fleet operators can reduce the financial burden of their charging infrastructure while generating alternative revenue streams.
