C’mon in a Corsa

Road Test

Vauxhall is urging drivers to put the fun back into driving by choosing a Corsa and also promises good fuel economy and CO2 emissions under 120g/km. Sofie Lidefjard takes it for a drive

Most of us have seen the television ads with the strange-looking puppets driving around in a Corsa shouting C’mon. Driving the 1.3 CDTi Club model for a week didn’t make me holler random phrases to strangers, especially as the engine isn’t the most exciting, but it did what most small hatchbacks do nowadays: it got me where I wanted in a safe and rather comfortable way.

Low CO2 emissions
With CO2 emissions of only 119g/km, the Vauxhall Corsa is a good choice for the environmentally aware in need of a small and reliable vehicle. Not particularly exciting or different, it feels smooth on the road with excellent handling on both the inner-city roads and motorways my driving took me on.

The engine in this particular model was the so called Eco-Flex ensuring fuel efficiency and eligibility for the lower band B vehicle Excise Duty charges, always a plus for fleet managers wanting to keep costs down.

Vauxhall successfully combines the suppleness of a small car with the stability of a larger and the safety that comes with it. The Corsa is top of the class when it comes to comfort and handling. The engine is perhaps a little boring but it’s quiet, both in the back and up front, which makes for a pleasant ride.

Corsa’s speed-sensitive steering makes it easy to turn the wheel at parking speeds, but also more stable with more feedback once you’re on the road.

Interior
The cabin was created to suit the demands of modern urban life and is of high standard with impressive attention to detail. The tailored fabrics are sharp, lines clean and surface finishes modern.

The interior is big on ergonomic efficiency with all controls within easy reach. Tall drivers will have no problem being comfortable and two grown-ups can travel in the back without aches and pains, even for longer journeys.

An increasing amount of cars come in under the magic 120g/km CO2 figure and the Corsa is a good option if you’re on the market for a reliable comfortable car, but not too fussed about power. C’mon Vauhall, put a little oomph in the Corsa!
