£6.6 million hydrogen investment

A £6.6 million investment in hydrogen infrastructure, representing another significant step in enabling the use of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, has been announced by the government.

The lack of hydrogen refuelling stations has hindered the adoption of hydrogen vehicles. In response, the government has pledged to create two new hydrogen refuelling stations in the Greater London area, a new mobile refuelling station on the South of England and upgrades to the existing station in Sheffield, Swindon, London and Wales.

Tony Whitehorn, president & CEO of Hyundai Motor UK, said: "The announcement from the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills provides a further boost to Britain’s hydrogen refuelling infrastructure. The additional stations and package of upgrades will make Fuel Cell vehicles a viable option for more fleet and private customers."
