Toyota introduces the new Prius and hybrid Rav 4

News

Toyota has introduced the new version of its Prius, the hybrid Rav 4 and the ‘Toyota New Global Architecture’ (TNGA) at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The new Prius is being marketed as ‘the rebirth of the pioneer’, and features a number of updates to Toyota’s original hybrid car. The drivetrain has undergone extensive revisions to improve efficiency, with CO2 emissions reportedly improved by 18 per cent.

The Prius will sit on the TNGA, a new approach to car production from Toyota that offers standardised platforms and components produced to cover the complete range of Toyota models to save development and engineering costs.

The introduction of the TNGA aims to allow for more flexible factories, with production lines that can quickly and easily be adapted to meet different requirements.

The new hybrid Rav 4 was also on display at Frankfurt, which is set to launch in European markets in 2016.

The total system output is 145 kW, with acceleration from 0-62mph in 8.7 seconds, fuel consumption of 57.7mpg and CO2 emissions of115g/km.
