Hyundai Mobis completes new hydrogen powertrain production facility

South Korean parts maker Hyundai Mobis has announced the completion of a new plant for the production of hydrogen fuel cell powertrain modules.

The KRW70bn (US$62m) facility, located within its Chungju manufacturing complex in South Korea, is scheduled to begin operations in September and has an initial production capacity of 3,000 fuel cell powertrain modules per year.

The company, which has Kia Motors as its largest shareholder, is working on increasing the power performance and reducing the weight of existing systems.

Hyundai Motor Co. plans to sell a new hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle next year, which will have a range of 580 kilometers.
