Councils fail to sign up to government EV charging cash

News

All councils in the Black Country and Staffordshire have not applied for the government funds to install electric charge points.

According to the Express & Star, under the On-street Residential Scheme, more than £4 million is available.

It pays for 75 per cent of street charge point installation, with up to £7,500 available for each charger.

However, no council in the region has taken advantage of the money incentive.

Cannock Chase council Councillor Paul Woodhead, of the Green Party, told the Express & Star: ”If councils have the opportunity they should be taking advantage of the cash incentive.

"Electric cars are the way we are going so this has to be taken into account when planning transport infrastructure."

Staffordshire County Council and Walsall Council said funding offered was not enough to make the scheme viable.
