Faraday Future unveils FFZero1 concept at CES

Faraday Future has unveiled its first concept car, the pure electric FFZero1, on the eve of the Consumer Electronics Show 2016.

The much teased concept is not designed for production, but provides a look at design elements that are likely to influence the manufacturer’s production vehicles, expected in the next two years.

The FFZero1 is a single seat all electric racer and sits on Faraday Future’s bespoke modular electric platform, known as the ‘Variable Platform Architecture’, which it claims can be easily reconfigured for other types of vehicles.

Research chief Nick Samson, formerly an engineer for Tesla, said that this architecture would enable Faraday Future to move faster than its competitors by using the same basic underlying structure for all vehicles.

Faraday Future has included four motors as part of the concept’s electric powertrain, producing over 986 bhp. It has a top speed of over 200 mph and can accelerate from 0-60 in less than three seconds.

Th exterior is carbon fibre and lightweight composite, with advanced high performance racing suspension and ‘aero tunnels’, which channel air through the vehicle to reduce drag and cool the batteries. The interior also features a multi-touch screen interface and augmented reality views projected onto the road ahead.

Sampson said: “We all share a common goal to profoundly move the world in better, cleaner and more intelligent ways. We have a very transformative vision. We are embarking on nothing less than a complete rethink on what mobility means.

“You don’t need to have a 100-year legacy in the automotive industry to define what the next generation of mobility needs to look and feel like.”
