Sono displays solar EV prototype

Sono Motors has unveiled its SION solar powered electric vehicles, with its first deliveries expected to arrive in 2018.

Last year, Sono launched a crowdfunding campaign in order to develop the solar vehicle, which can travel up to 18 miles using energy from the sun.

The Munich based firm received enough support through its fundraising scheme and have now opened up the SION to pre orders.

The family-sized vehicle has a range of around 250km and costs 16,000 euros, which does not include the battery.

The firm plans to start production after 5,000 vehicles have been reserved.

Test drives for the vehicle will be taking place 18 August in Munich and will continue through 12 cities and seven countries.
