Wind and solar-powered vehicle to travel the world

Pioneering project involves visiting low carbon projects in 30 countries around the world

A unique wind and solar powered vehicle has been engineered in Switzerland with the aim of taking two reporters around the world to investigate pioneering low carbon initiatives.

Unveiled at the Geneva motor, project ICARE will see the two reporters visit around 30 countries on four continents in the specially engineered solar and wind-powered vehicle. Starting in May 2010 and ending in October 2011, the reporters will visit and give media coverage on low carbon projects around the world.

The capsule-shaped vehicle is attached to a trailer of solar panels and the wind energy is created from a wind turbine. Peddles also give the vehicle a third energy source, muscular. Not only is the vehicle emission-free, it is also fully independent as the energy it needs is freely available in the environment.

A Swiss-based technical team will assist the ICARE Project reporters with the logistics, multimedia reporting and the relationship with the media and partners. There will be two groups of reporters: a fixed core group and a rotating team according to the continents visited. In addition, a scientific committee made up of engineers and economists will analyse the information gathered on the field before it is published.
