Southeastern to reduce site energy use by 10 per cent |
Savings as part of 10:10 campaign to reduce carbon output.
Southeastern has committed to making savings across the company to reduce its total site energy use by 10 per cent by the end of 2010 as part of the 10:10 campaign.
The company recycled 1792 tonnes of waste last year and has also introduced measures such as regenerative braking and extra training for drivers on more energy efficient driving techniques.
10:10 is a national drive aiming for a 10 per cent reduction in the UK’s emissions during 2010, achieved from grid electricity use, in-site fossil fuel use, vehicle use and air travel. The campaign already has over 60,000 individuals, organisations and businesses signed-up.
Colin Clifton, Head of Safety and Environment, Southeastern said: "As a company that runs only electric trains, we are aware that we need to be managing our carbon output and look at ways of reducing it without affecting the running of our services."
"We have already reduced our carbon footprint by nearly 20 per cent and we are determined to continue this in 2010." Further information: 10:10 |
