Tax relief to boost electric car take-up |
The chancellor Alistair Darling has announced a five year exemption from Benefit-in-Kind (BiK) tax for company drivers of electric cars in his Pre-Budget Report.
He also announced a 100 per cent first year capital allowance for electric vans.
Currently company drivers of electric cars face a nine per cent BiK bill. While this is the lowest band, it still means a 20 per cent tax payer faces a £64 a year BiK charge for a £20,000 electric car.
The changes are designed to get more companies to add electric vehicles to their fleets. |
