Autokontrol are manufacturers of ‘e’ approved top speed limiters for cars and commercial vehicles. Most speed limiters today are fitted to light vans for local authorities, utilities, energy providers and construction companies
Limiters are mainly set at 70 mph, with some at 65, 62 or 60 mph. All produce savings, some are very impressive, and every 1% fuel saving gives a reduction in CO2 emissions of 1%. Dependent on annual mileage a limiter can pay for itself in four months! Some new vehicles can be acquired with an OEM limit set and dependent on the make they may be “encrypted”. A limit set in this way may be difficult or impossible to remove and this will devalue the vehicle at the time of re sale. Autokontrol systems find favour with leasing companies because they can be removed or reset to a higher speed to suit the new owner’s wishes. At GreenFleet Scotland, Autokontrol will have a Citroen van available to give fleet managers a ‘limited’ driving experience. They will find that the performance is normal until it arrives at the set speed when it will continue smoothly and without fluctuations. The speed setting will be changed to suit the trial driver’s preference. Although the savings of fuel and reduction in emissions are important, Autokontrol have customers whose primary reason for fitting speed limiters is to meet their obligation towards Duty of Care Legislation.
