Limiters are mainly set at 70 mph, with some at 65, 62 or 60 mph. All produce savings, some are very impressive, and every 1% fuel saving gives a reduction in CO2 emissions of 1%. Dependent on annual mileage a limiter can pay for itself in four months! Some new vehicles can be acquired with an OEM limit set and dependent on the make they may be “encrypted”. A limit set in this way may be difficult or impossible to remove and this will devalue the vehicle at the time of re sale. Autokontrol systems find favour with leasing companies because they can be removed or reset to a higher speed to suit the new owner’s wishes.
