Winner: Openreach - part of the BT Group
TfL Private Sector Fleet of the Year winner 2008 - Openreach- part of the BT Group The Capital Fuel Challenge, which took place on July 31st, assigned a freight task to each vehicle entered in order to measure its fuel efficiency. Each vehicle had to navigate its way around the congestion charge zone, stopping at four predetermined checkpoints to pick up a parcel. Before and after the challenge, the vehicles were scrutinised by engineers at Millbrook Laboratories to test for fuel efficiency.

The shortlisted entrants each gave a 5 minute presentation on the initiatives they have undertaken to improve their fleet’s emissions and efficiency, and why they think their fleet should win the award. Entrants were scored as follows:
  • 60 per cent weighting on the G-Factor presentation at the GreenFleet Conference. The judging panel scored each 5 minute presentation on a range of criteria, including communication, cost-effectiveness, innovation and environmental impact reduction.
  • 20 per cent weighting on the fuel challenge results and data obtained from the Capital Fuel Challenge
  • 20 per cent weighting on interactive voting - awarded by the audience and voted for electronically at the O2 booth
