Winner: Green Fuels Three years ago, Green Fuels Ltd started the development of FuelPod2, an easy to use machine that converts waste burger grease, chip fat and cooking oil into fuel. The fuel can be used in any diesel model, without the incidences of damaged engines that plague other biofuels. Small enough to fit into the corner of the garage, the system takes the hassle out of biofuel production. Green Fuels now has a range of converters that cover every kind of user, from motorists driving to and from work to large fleets who need thousands of litres a week for fuel-hungry teams of cars, vans and lorries. At a few pence a litre, the potential savings, even for low mileage motorists, are huge. To prove how effective biofuel produced from the FuelPod2 could be, Managing Director James Hygate recently sponsored and took part in a ten car, 2,200 mile trek from London all the way to Athens called Grease to Greece. The whole trip was fuelled by cooking oil, chip fat and left over grease from burger vans, restaurant and fish and chip bars across Europe. Hygate’s trip proved conclusively that biofuels are reliable and can take you thousands of miles without a hitch. Commended: Connaught Engineering The HYBRID+ system invented by Connaught comprises of an electric motor which is attached to a vehicles’ drive line via a Constantly Variable Transmission. This allows the electric motor to run at peak efficiency, and provides torque largely independent of the vehicles’ engine speed. During deceleration or braking, this motor performs as a dynamo and generates electrical charge energy, saving fuel and reducing the overall CO2 exhaust emissions. Commended: Ashwoods Ashwoods have recently launched its retro fitted Hybrid-Drive, the first system to be developed in the UK which is backed by Government approved emissions data, confirming significant reductions in CO2 emissions on both petrol and diesel vehicles. |
