IT Innovation Award

Winner: Green Road Safety Centre

GreenFleet IT Innovation 2008 Award Winner - Green Road Safety CentreThe Green Road Safety Centre service consists of an in-vehicle device for feedback and comprehensive online reporting for drivers, fleet managers, and insurers to measure safety progress. Drivers are continuously assessed, based on up to 120 distinct manoeuvres and are provided with continuous feedback on their driving performance via red, amber and green LCDs on the dashboard. They can also receive SMS texts at the end of each journey. Detailed skill and safety analysis is available through a password-protected web site for the driver and fleet manager, along with recommendations for safer, greener driving.

GreenRoad’s R&D team spent five years developing algorithms that analyse the raw motion data and convert it into meaningful information about driver behaviour and patterns. These results were then compared to driver safety statistics and found to be accurate in predicting high-risk drivers.

T-Mobile has deployed Safety Center in 228 service vehicles, and has recorded fuel savings of around £148 per driver over 2007. Its fuel saving for 2007 was £20,000 or 5,063 gallons and a saving in CO2 emissions of 60,249 kg. The Ministry of Defence has also installed Safety Center in 200 of its vehicles across the UK.

Commended:
Airmax Remote
Airmax Remote was contracted to Royal & Sun Alliance 'MoreThan' to be the in-vehicle technology supplier and web interface designer that would allow their insurance customers to view personal driving data to see how their driving style compared with others within an anonymous peer group.

Commended: Eagle-i Telematics
Eagle-i Telematics has added a new Speed Management Module to its award-winning Monitor3 web-based telematics system. The module identifies speeding behaviours on all types of roads at all times of the day and night, making it possible for company managers to readily identify drivers with high risk attitudes.

Commended: Cybit
In February 2008, Cybit launched the next generation of fleet management technologies to provide companies with CANbus-generated vehicle performance data. This builds powerful and highly configurable reporting suites for entire fleets allowing customers to unlock a range of new cost savings and efficiency enhancements.
