 DriveTech is a privately-owned plc, established 18 years ago by the current chairman Chris Howell. As a respected driver training and risk management provider, the company also has specific expertise in fuel efficient driving, and is continuing to place emphasis on greener driving in its business model.
DriveTech was awarded the contract to create and provide ‘train the trainer’ instruction for the ‘SAFED for Vans’ fuel economy course which, during 2006/7, proved beyond doubt that fuel efficient driving is a win win situation for all road users, and that the use of safe and fuel-efficient driving techniques will make a major contribution to reducing CO2, particularly in the LCV sector.
Full day, practical on-road defensive driver training courses, delivered under the ‘FleetSafe’ sub brand, contain a specific fuel economy driving element. Because of enthusiastic promotion by the business development team, this has become the product of choice for most clients. Fuel economy workshops provide two and half hours of fuel-focussed hints, tips, information and practical advice, with a Q&A at the end. Internally, DriveTech encourages staff to make conference calls in preference to face to face meetings, along with the use of public transport wherever practical.

The IAM’s holistic road safety initiative, Wheels, provides effective training for a variety of road users, and promotes a more economical usage of vehicles. Since the beginning of this year, 75 BSkyB employees have signed up for 'Wheels' cycle training and more than 300 members of staff have had their bicycles repaired and checked.
